WATER DRAGON FEST
The portside Town of Elmina is holding their annual Water Dragon Festival in honor of the Water Dragon Waka. Water Dragon Waka is a known foodie, so there will be a cooking competition held by the city lord as well as a variety of street vendors set up to celebrate the festivities. Additionally, the royal family of Valeria will be holding a hunt in the nearby Pouring Rainforest in honor of this event. This forest is controlled terrain so they will be releasing captive beasts into it. Choose. Do you want to help or hinder with these activities? The choices are yours.

"Welp, this is it huh? Man, I hope we can get a big one! Like huge! So huge I get huge reward! Like, the Queen's own magic scepter-wand or something like that! Hah! That would be awesome! Ah, but that's not going to happen unless we get something big to lug in. Well, whatever! I'm sure whatever they let loose in this place will go down easy! Haha! I want to finish this up quick so I can get get some grub!"
Henrietta had just taken her first few steps in the forest and was excited. She had never been to the area before but was happy at the prospect of exploring a new zone. Trees, vines, and ferns weaved themselves into dense greenery all around Henrietta. Above, a canopy filtered in shadowy light.
Trotting forward happily, Henrietta felt completely at home. This had much to do with her magic, an exceedingly rare magic that made use of trees and the energies of the earth. Thanks to her magic, Henrietta often felt at home in heavily wooded areas like this jungle.
Henrietta took a deep breath, then breathed out slowly.
"That's the stuff! Gotta get some of that fresh jungle air!"
Suddenly, Henrietta began to cough and spit violently.
"Ah, almost swallowed a bug... well, at least no one was here to see that... haha. Okay, off to a rough start but still so far so good! OH! You know what? I bet those beasts left some tracks around to make themselves easier to find! Yeah, and then a bigger beast would leave deeper tracks because they're heavier right? That makes sense! Okay! Nice plan! Let's see if there's anything around and then all that's left is to follow the tracks that seem the deepest! Haha, I'm such a genius this will be easy peasy!"
Squatting down, Henrietta began to snoop looking for any tracks or signs that showed where a beast might have went.
"...hm... that plan seems as good as any... or at least... my sensors aren't picking up any of the target beasts at the moment..."
Squinting to and fro into the distance, Deneb was currently using one of her hands to shield her visual sensors----otherwise known as her eyes----from the sun peeking in from the canopy above. Watching Henrietta, however, she none-the-less gave a little titter of a sigh.
"...but you know... if we want to eat something... all that we have to do is... go eat..."
She muttered half to herself. You see, Deneb was currently pouting. After being told by her guildmate that there was going to be some kind of food festival, the young-looking doll-like girl had been ready to leave at the drop of a hat. But now, well, this little diversion was to her just that: a diversion. Rewards be damned, free food was boon enough already.
Deneb's stomach grumbled almost as if to match her protests making the doll-girl frown. In the back of her mind she could only imagine all of the high-class fancy delicacies that were available for sample (by a famous chef no less!) only a few minutes way back towards civilization. Letting go of that fleeting thought, Deneb sighed once more. In spite of her protests, she didn't want to trample over her partner's enthusiasm.
"...have you found any tracks...? or should i try flying us upward for a better vantage...? that wouldn't be cheating... would it...?"
*whir* *whir* Hovering along just behind Henrietta, the winged Deneb tilted her head.
rds scatter through the forest as the sound of trumpets echo in the wind. A single flag raises to declare that the hunt can begin. You’ve found your party, and you’ve begun snooping around. Staring at the ground in front of you, you see two sets of tracks headed in opposite directions. [break][break] One set has four paw prints that disappear into the forest. The second set of tracks drag and wind up against the river. From your location, you also notice a third path leading down towards rock quarries, but there seems to be no life present in this area. [break][break] Your choice from here will affect the request and future stories. If you have any questions, please message baby on discord. You do not know when the next interference will take place.
"Hey! Found something! Haha, nothing escapes Great Witch of the Forest Henrietta! Now that we've got a trail all we have to do is follow it, kick it's butt with some crazy awesome attacks, and then lug it home for the grand prize! Woah, I'm so good at hunting beasts I scare myself, haha! You find anything over there Deneb?"
Henrietta eyed Deneb then shook her head dejectedly.
"Aww man, finding the tracks probably would have been a lot easier if you remembered to remind me that you could fly. The vantage point would have made spotting them easy I bet. Oh well, maybe you could hover a bit to see a bit better around us? Or, wait? Maybe not because the beasts will here you flying? Is it loud when you fly? Man, hunting's tougher than I thought. Though I guess it's not tough enough to where I get tired of it and go home. Well, that's probably because they're a prize I want. Well, whatever. Anywaysss...."
Stretching her legs, Henrietta began following the trail of paw prints leading into the forest.
"Meh, we'll just figure it out as we go. I don't want this thing to get hunted by another group! We've gotta catch it first and that's all there is to it! Okay, let's go!"
Deneb looked at Henrietta, the tracks, the air, and then at the tracks once more.
"...If I fly I will not be able to see the tracks you found due to the canopy of trees. ...So I will not fly."
Deneb nodded before moving to follow the tracks alongside Henrietta. Deneb was listening for any rustling in the overgrowth, but so far, she had come up with nothing. There were only the stray cries of various unseen birds that Deneb could not help but not be interested in. Her face was more or less blank as she followed along. Watching Henrietta look this way or that, Deneb eventually broke the silence. It would appear that there was something on her mind.
"...This is my first festival so I do not get it. If these creatures were already caught, why release them? ...They are only giving us more work to do, and even if they are paying us should we succeed, it still all seems highly illogical... if I were to create a festival... I would simply feed my guests delicious food... I am sure anyone would agree that, that would be the proper course of procedure... hm..."
Stopping in her tracks, Deneb suddenly frowned.
"...We are not being punk'd, are we...?"
She tilted her head as her right hand quivered from the force of being balled into a fist.
"If so, only give the order and I will punish these sham celebrants like the dark guild they are."
The couple of you choose to continue down the path leading into the forest. Following the tracks, they eventually disappear into the vegetation. You’re both doing the best you can to keep an eye out for any monsters, but your conversation seems to have ward them all away. [break][break] Do you continue? Your choice from here will affect the request and future stories. If you have any questions, please message baby on discord. You do not know when the next interference will take place.
Henrietta followed the trail closely while chatting to Deneb, but eventually came to find that the tracks were getting vaguer and vaguer. Worse yet, then hand't come across anything but birds and lizards since they had entered the first. Well, maybe a squirrel or something too, but honestly nothing that qualified as one of the beasts they were hunting. Not even once did it dawn on Henrietta that being quiet was important when hunting.
"Aw man, where are all these beasts? You would think that ferocious man-eating monsters would be hunting us just as much as we're hunting them, right? But so far nothing. Even the tracks are gone! Gah... Deneb, do you have any ideas or plans? Oh! What if we used some bait or something? Ah... but I don't have anything to eat on me. I didn't bother since the festival is happening. Do you have anything?"
Henrietta looked around the immediate vicinity for anything that could be used as bait.
"I don't know if any of this stuff would actually work. Like, maybe there's fruit in the trees? But I don't think beasts would eat fruit right? They would probably be more like meat eaters? Hmm... well if all else fails we could go to that river and catch a bunch of fish. Then all we would have to do would be lug all the fish back here in a pile, then hide and wait. Actually... you know what? That's not a bad plan at all! Unless you have a better idea?"
