it was a given. nephele hadn't expected the endeavor to end the way she had wanted. her measly hands and throttling leg were more adept to out maneuver an enemy than send their limbs flying. especially when the issue was one giant and sturdy golem. [break][break]
nephele lost her balance momentarily as the beast stumbled backwards. quickly leaping from the shoulders to avoid the fragments which fell from above. soon enough the girl was back where she'd been before. aside the now overly muscular man.[break][break]
just nearly forgetting the lack of clothes.[break][break]
"together. we'll both hit that leg." she'd say, referring to the one that had been more damaged than the rest. the work of deadly claws and a deadly blade needed one last hit. the golem wouldn't have been defeated yet, surely it wouldn't be able to fight properly.[break][break]
"quickly!" nephele shouted, charging forward once more. one hand clenched as she bounded towards the currently frazzled blockage. with the power that the other held, the impact of both would've been just enough. at least, within her certainty of capability, she believed it was possible.

regis? [break][break]
there was something familiar about that name. her lips motionless as she considered just where she'd heard it before. unable to find an immediate answer within the secrecy of her mind, nephele broke from her thoughts.[break][break]
whispering started from her form. the strange noise easily misplaced as the nonexistent breeze. however— the man that called himself regis would begin to feel ill if he continued to look forth. unsettling and ever—moving symbols reaching visibly beneath her left eye.[break][break]
"what a strange way to capture a wanted criminal." once void of emotion had now been painted by the slightest of anger. "certainly you don't take me for a fool?" the voice that flooded with darkness grew louder and louder. the eerie and nearly overwhelming sound not for the faint of heart.[break][break]
"be grateful i've given you the chance to even introduce yourself." inwardly nephele fought the urge for bloodshed. turning opposite from the man to bound further into the dark forest. falling victim to her own power would almost always result in loss. or the murder of someone that did not truly deserve it.

the sudden appearance of a magic circle was enough for the girl to be on immediate edge. however— it wasn't as if nephele discerned the type of ability that was to come. she took the full impact of the push, inevidetably falling into the pile of trash that lay behind her. [break][break]
her world lay in a sudden blur. quickly overruled by the anger. soon enough, within the fleeing man, came her horns. she stood with a somewhat frightening glare. one stray banana peel gently plucked from her head.[break][break]
wind? no... gravity? lips curved into a forced smile. she moved from the narrow alley and into the swarm of innocent civilians. the rushing individual visible even from the distance he had managed to make. despite the speed that nephele possessed. barreling through the mass of people would've caused a scene.[break][break]
then again— there was always a solution.[break][break]
as to not become the target for attention in the demonic shift, she made haste to the rooftops. bounding from structure upon structure in the thankfully close—by assortment. soon enough nephele was as near the man as she had been before. the shadow of her figure casting itself across his own. an unexpected descent that would land directly on him.

it was nearly amusing that the other chose to follow through with the whole sham. nephele giving a slight nod of approval as those hands extended forth. jerking the crown left and right, then up and down. it set her world in an astounded twirl between the precise movement. gripping at her forehead in order to steady her surroundings once again. [break][break]
"no." she responded immediately. the wonders of this apparent disease had long subsided. from the beginning the girl had never believed a word. "listen up, con man." the hand lurched forward, pertaining a rather firm hold on his forearm. "the people here work hard for their money. if you hand over those jewels i won't cause a scene." not an ounce of empathy settled in those eyes. her chance did seem genuine regardless.[break][break]
"otherwise. i don't think you'll like what happens next." nephele smirked, disregarding the contrast in size between the pair. although the girl never truly expressed her good—will for the people. she did understand what it was like. the struggle of acquiring food and constantly wearing the same ragged clothes. her reputation had warped her into something she wasn't— therefore— nephele never expected a soul to come to her aid.[break][break]
she did this because she wished of it.

the fissure of stony flesh erupted in slight fragments. shrilling against her force with naught a single desired outcome. she stood a few lengths away from the back of the beast. watching with narrowing eyes as it effortlessly deflected the onslaught of her 'partner'. [break][break]
certainly it wouldn't go down in one singular blow. the golem was stronger than she cared to realize within the advance. only now was nephele considering the situation as romilda proved a brilliant distraction. knowing the benefit of continuing onward only mattered to the one which was departing. [break][break]
it might've been a cruel thought yet— her nature couldn't help otherwise.[break][break]
an influence of power had been given to her and a gift undeserving. given who she was and the identity she'd poised. these negative— guilt-ridden emotions were all that had kept her here. the heavy sigh departing by her lips with prominent frustration was unheard. soon enough nephele charged forward again.[break][break]
given the speed as opposed to the strength— she reached them within seconds. the light motion allowing the girl to leap upwards and grab onto the head of the golem. it was a risky act but she was confident her movement overruled the bulky creature. when all had been just steady enough the foot uplifted itself. slamming down upon the head with her hands still gripping onward. aiming to fully lodge the comical face entirely from the body.

within the stupor that was influenced by the foul smell, she turned around slowly. the grip on the lower half of her face dropped as she saw the contents of the sugar slipping from the bag. acknowledging the other girl short—lived as nephele rushed forward. making certain nothing else would depart in the hold. [break][break]
one sharp breath drew inward into an eventual heavy sigh. "what on earth. are you doing?" she questioned, peering up at the slightly taller girl with a furrow in her brows. "are you trying to kill the people?" nephele took the sugar and placed it on the nearby counter. hoping nothing else would result in absolute disaster. as it once had.[break][break]
"i'll teach you how to make a proper meal." the wrist poised itself against her crown. ridding of a few stray beads of sweat. "grab me all the vegetables they have. oh and especially potatoes." her expression held a flicker of dangerous enthusiasm. "you best hurry up. we don't have much time." nephele said, encouraging the other to move as she started to clean the kitchen.

there seemed a momentary hysteria as the dead came closer. soon overlapped by the blinding light— consuming every figure of danger till the essence faded away in a steady flicker. her expression diminished of its frenzy as she stared forward owlishly. [break][break]
ruby pursued the trail in a steady motion. eventually settled on the man whose voice had broken through before the advance. all surprise quickly reverting to a much blanker state. another hunter?— suspicions wavered as he spoke otherwise. however— her doubt for the benefit of remaining safe did not fully trust that statement. she narrows her eyes.[break][break]
"not for long." nephele said, straightening her posture. the clash of silver strangely captivating as it caught the light of the moon above. it was just as curious as the power he'd wielded. something the girl wasn't about to press given their surroundings and unfamiliarity. the claim was hardly reassuring.[break][break]
"but— whose asking?" she decided. the extension of demonic horns had not dwindled as the burst. acute canines hidden beneath the lips but itching for blood. it was a lust not of her own. one curse unable to be wielded properly pushed for something sinister.

with travel came necessity for work. her reasoning behind it all didn't end in getting paid. unfortunately— it was these small moments that allowed her to truly survive. even if the amount resulted in cheap uncooked potatoes. [break][break]
it was better than nothing.[break][break]
nephele was half—way to the open kitchen when she smelt smoke. those red eyes gradually trailing upwards to the visible smog that had been withdrawing from the building. it wasn't exactly immense. still the fact that her destination was possibly aflame left a series of questions racing through her mind.[break][break]
her pace quickened towards the entrance, fanning away the cloud as she entered. holding onto the clarity of her breath. it was practically hell inside. the large pot upon the oven was violently aflame with not a person in sight.[break][break]
what the hell?[break][break]
frantically the element was turned off with some careful maneuvering. the heat might've died down but the contents of the 'soup' were completely destroyed. a nauseating odor beginning to emerge as nephele covered her mouth. feeling immediately sickened.

the lips quirked into a smile again— lowering her eyes to the dusty floors till lashes concealed the red. their surroundings shook around them marginally in the movement of the distant golem. the shift was taking place upon the visible hands. darkness overlapped the pale flesh and drastically sharpened the nails. it was a weaponry made present in her now demonic hands. horns emerging soon after. [break][break]
her gaze lifted itself. the pupil slimmer and more precise than before. "lets see if you can keep up with me." nephele said before darting forward. the movement immense but not unable to be discerned in her general direction. skidding to halt behind the massive stone—living creature. more precise canines were visible in the grin. seemingly elated by the present challenge of taking down the golem.[break][break]
deadly claws tore into the legs of the beast. aiming to leave it vulnerable in an eventual staggering mess. though nephele was not drastically powerful, she was quick on her feet. evading the potential onslaught that the golem would bring if it turned to face the girl.

it was difficult to know what the other was thinking. given the lack of dismay for the overall situation— she figured there must've been some other bizarre and complex reason. the purpose that had led her to taking a life before his eyes shared the same mystery. [break][break]
nephele glanced at the smear with a guilt that was nonexistent. rather— it was difficult for either of them to deter what kind of thoughts they held. the opening for realization painted in a picture that never changed. arms crossed over the chest— the furrow slightly prominent.[break][break]
"how gracious of you." the girl repeated. using his own previous lackluster words. "but i have no plea to make." it was a waste of time and effort. regardless if the other had witnessed the gruesome scene— the reasoning behind it all would quickly fall beneath the reputation. one figure built upon lies by those desperate to avoid the wrath.[break][break]
"you're not on my list." she said, those visible lips quirking up into a smile. it was a confident yet slightly canny expression. nephele turning suddenly from the other and bounding into the crowd. the pacing hardly as casual as it had been before. she moved quickly— weaving through the festivities as though to depart from the pursuing blonde.

nephele had watched it all. gradually losing her faith in the people if they were so easily convinced by an absolute sham. or— maybe the man had just chosen his target well. [break][break]
one mother with nothing but concern for her child was relatively easily to sway. even if it had been heavily exaggerated to the point of question. she took a bite of the usual potato. one eyebrow twitching as the individual turned back into his usual spot. the rawness of the vegetable giving her some stimulus for action.[break][break]
the girl took the quieter route given her reputation. approaching the figure from behind. "hey, con man." nephele called, knowing the nickname would grab his attention, "you mind enlightening me on this disease?" the hooding kept itself over the crown yet the features were apparent. red eyes narrowed— awaiting a response of some kind.

the slightly excessive shaking and patting had nephele swaying against the force. her world spinning around her till the gesture stopped. the pale hand grabbed the arm of the silver—haired man. an expression of surprising timidity peering through strands of raven. [break][break]
of course the assertive motion of the hands spoke otherwise. the other fisting into the cuff of his shirt with as much enthusiasm as what had been given before. "w-what if i am?"hiccup! finally the influence was getting to them. an abrupt and unwanted advance.[break][break]
"huh? i-its not like! i wanna be!" it was a drastic change. from cunning and quiet— nephele had been reduced to a blithering mess of incoherent rambles. surely the girl would've rather died than presently be doing such a thing. unable to truly grasp real from fake.[break][break]
"what's so... special about that guild? huh? cats cradle! cats cradle!" the hand slipped from the hold, using it to keep her head up. unfortunately her strength was nonexistent in the moment and she teetered forward. her face burrowed into a chest that smelt vaguely like dirt and sweat. surprise encroached the smiling features. blinking owlishly at his confusion till it had enraptured her in the sudden humor. laughter slipped by parted lips— the supporting hand now covering her mouth within the act. [break][break]
"a-about the crown! what else!" she stated— gradually fading of the large smile. the index finger ridding of a stray tear. it had been some time since nephele last had a laugh. "well... you're right." the quirk of bliss remained but it was gentle. a whisper of secrecy on her delicate lips. her eyes were back on him.[break][break]
"it's odd we haven't introduced ourselves." extending her hand across the table, it was a notable gesture that awaited the other, "my name is nephele and you are?" not giving any forethought to the honesty of her calling, it would have seemed the alcohol was getting to her. everything which occurred felt as though it were all a figment of the imagination.[break][break]

fully done with the meal— all that'd been left was the drink. the teetering motion of a refill that continued throughout an unheard conversation. pale fingers carefully held the glass. teasing the contents within by sipping every so often. appeasing the slight silence that lingered in her absent voice. [break][break]
"would you have preferred a happier story?" nephele questioned, smirking, "for some reason i think you'd believe me if i told you anything."and then an insult. short—lived of any opening for retaliation as the girl continued to speak. "what about you? what do you think?" leaning forward— chin in palm— the red bared intensely in the direction of the silver haired man. truly cunning.[break][break]
"for someone who talks so much i'm surprised you barely have anything to say about yourself." any fragment of suspicion from before was long gone. this was her game. she'd gotten herself ensnared by the offer— by the food— and then by his curiosities. yet he still didn't know. it was either remarkable or simply intimidating.
